My journey to starting an online organic and eco friendly website for children started innocently enough from an early age. Shortly after I was born my parents moved to a small farm in North Carolina. We had a garden and apple trees even chickens, all in which were at some point in time food sources for us. We even bought our milk from a local dairy farmer. Everyone in this once small farming community supported and traded with each other. Even though we moved from there when I was only six those basic core values of living a more natural and healthier lifestyle were already subconsciously engrained.

Many years later at the age of thirty, I suffered a severe asthma attack during our condo being renovated.  The attack was so bad I was taken to the emergency room and hospitalized for two days. The mixture of the chemicals in the paints, drywall dust and unknown underlying allergies caused my lungs to shut down.  This single event changed forever the way I saw my environment. I became more aware of what might be in my home, around my family, as well as what we may be putting in our bodies when we eat.

After the birth of our daughter, this awareness expanded in thinking of ways to help her have a more organic and chemical free lifestyle. I felt from the start it was important to teach her little things that hopefully will help make a life time difference. This summer after she turned three we planted our first garden and ate the food we were able to grow. We also visit a local farmers market whose owner only buys from farms within a thirty mile radius of where we live.  These few things that I am trying to teach her now, I'm hoping will be a part of something bigger in her future.   I feel her generation could really make a positive change.
